How To Tackle A Tough Objective/MCQ Exam

Life is a never ending exam. Some win, some loose and some quit in between. On each and every path, it comes with different passages and number of options. Some paths are creaky, some are steep, some are exciting, some are breathtaking, some attract us towards thereselves while some retract. In  these variety of options we have to choose the right one. Sometimes our chosen options can either proved to be a boon for us or it can proved to be a regret of lifetime. So either it is small or big, each and every decision matters.

Similarly objective or MCQ's (Multiple Choice Questions) exams are identical to journey of life because it comes up with different passages and number of options in which we have to choose the right one. Whether it is life or exam we can not always be prepared for every hurdle. Especially talking about exams every question cannot be answered or solved or you cannot solve every question still you are well prepared.

In our previous article How To Explore Career Options After Engineering, we told you about the various career options in different fields after engineering but to enter in engineering field or almost any of the field such as Medical, Management Exams, Civil Services, Armed Forces, Banks, SSC etc you will have to pass through initial hurdle of 'Objective Exam.' So this is our sincere effort to help the students to tackle a tough objective exam.

Some Tips To Be Followed :

1. First thing you have to do before every exam is to calm down your nerves and relax your mind. Wipe out all the other thoughts from the mind but the exam.

2. Make your pre-exam strategy i.e. how to tackle the questions, how much time to spend on a particular section because objective exams basically contains number of section and most of the objective exams are speed based such as SSC, Banks, Railways etc. so you have to plan your strategy to do well and attempt a number of questions which will make your way further.

3. Try to set a target of how much questions you have to attempt to ensure your success in exam.

4. This is one of the most important tip which will work in many questions in many exams. Try to solve the question or find out the right option by ruling out or eliminating other options. You can eliminate odd options in a following way

• Logically.
• By putting value from options in the question to check that which option is satisfying the problem. This technique mostly works in the filed of Maths, Reasoning, English etc
• By solving a question in a systematic procedure so that you will find out the correct option in first attempt and other options will automatically ruled out. But this can be time consuming.
• By various short tricks and techniques so that you can get the right answer in a little time.

5. As we have discussed above that most of these objective exams are speed based. So if your speed is slow then try to attain the accuracy. Make sure that maximum number of questions should be correct from the number of questions you are attempting.

Different Objective Exams And How To Prepare For Them :

1. Exams like JEE-MAINS (For NIT's and other Engineering colleges) and JEE-ADVANCE (For IIT's) needs good quality of preparation. Try to work on concept building. Practice the variety of questions. Devote a good amount of time to your study.

2.Exams like GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test In Engineering) and other individual exams for PSU's needs how much you can remember from your course of 4 years in your respective engineering stream. Start preparation from the beginning. Prepare notes of every core subject from the first year, it will help you a lot. Try to solve different practice papers of GATE pattern.

3.Exams like CAT (Common Admission Test) needs speed in sections like Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation. Try to work on your calculation speed. Don't follow entire procedure to solve questions, try to solve it in a way in which it consumes less time. Read english newspaper daily to improve english. Your english for CAT will be improved by reading merely. Read a variety of content from different fields such as politics, economics, science, psychology etc.

4. Exams like SSC, Banks, Railways, Armed Forces need speed with accuracy. Practice hard to develop good speed with accuracy.

These were the few common exams which is in trend in India right now but one must positively prepare for every exam because shortcuts don't work everywhere. Hard work is a key to success.

How/What To Opt After 10th Standard

Education plays a very important part in one's life. It leads you to a well established career and better life. Basic education is necessary for the initial development of a person. An illiterate person can be fooled but an educated or literate can not be fooled because every educated person knows its basic rights. Education is a basic tool which guides one on each and every step of life. So education should be necessary and compulsory.

Basic education of every individual is up to 12th standard, then starts the higher education. But the most important decision which leads you to your forthcoming career i.e. in which field you have to go, takes place after 10th standard.

Yes, the stream you have to choose in your 11th standard i.e. science stream, commerce stream and arts stream. This decision can proved to be a turning point in your life or it can be a disaster as well. So it is a most exciting or somewhat confusing step of life for students. So here we are, trying to help the students in taking right decision.

Some Points To Ponder :

Important Note : All this opting process is entirely depends upon your area of interest.

1. So first find out your area of interest. Don't get influenced by your friend's decisions or what your parents are saying. We are not saying that go against your parents but try to figure out what you want and try to make your parents understand.

2. Try to figure what you like and try to relate it with your study field. Eg. If you love to read literature, poetry then go for art side or if you love machinery and mechanism then go for science side so that it will help you to choose better options in graduation.

3. If you are confused and unable to find out your area of interest (this is the case in which either you like all the subjects or you don't like most of the subjects.) then try to analyse in which of the subjects your performance in class tests and exams are better than others ones.

4. Besides interest you have to choose wisely. Choose one light or scoring subject along with other heavy subjects because at the end you have to score good marks in board exams also. We will explain this point below with favorable example.

Choices One Should Make:

For science lovers :

P C M (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) with Computer Science : Can be a good and scoring combination if you are interested in computer and if you want to pursue with computer for your higher studies.

P C M with Physical Education : It is a combination which can give you a healthy and energetic life with studies. It is also a good combination for those who wants to proceed with the career in sports and athletics, because as Swami Vivekananda said "It would be better to play football than read the Gita." This combination is scoring as well.

P C M with Hindi : Hindi is one of the light subject but little bit less scoring as compared to others. You will have to improve your presentation, handwriting and writing skills to score in Hindi. English and Hindi both requires good presentation and writing skills to score.

P C M with Biology : One of the deadly combination because biology needs cramming. So if you are good in cramming then you can make it into this combination too. Also it opens fields for both engineering and medical.

For Commerce Lovers :

Commerce with Maths : Can be a good combination if you like to study maths with commerce and without core science subjects.

Commerce with Physical Education : A combination for healthy life with good marks.

Commerce with Hindi : Another good option for scoring but requires good writing skills.

These were the few common combinations. Nowadays Boards provide a lot of variety in options such as Fashion technology, biotech, history etc. It totally depends upon your school that what options are it providing.

How To Explore Career Options After Engineering

'ENGINEERING' a divine word for mostly all the students who opted for science (Physics, Chemistry and Maths as their subjects in XI standard). It has become a trend in India nowadays. Every year nearly 7,50,000 engineers from almost 4000 colleges  graduate every year in India. When students enter in XI standard, they have lot of zeal and enthusiasm to prepare for IIT's, NIT's and other prestigious colleges and universities in India. Kota, Delhi etc. has become second home for students. 'Foundation course for two years duration',' Target course for one year duration', 'Special batches from class IX' has become the catchy line of hoarding and banners of various coaching classes.

In this blind race some students get succeed in their attempts and become the cream (students of topmost colleges) of India, while others have hard luck and get admitted in not so good colleges and from here the actual journey starts. Journey of studies leads to journey of never ending exams, journey of friendship leads to journey of lifetime memorable fun and excitement, journey of relationship leads to journey of love and journey of hard work leads to journey of forthcoming bright career. Mostly students from topmost colleges get placed in reputed companies with handsome package. Problem mainly occurs with the students from not so good colleges. Some get placed, some don't and some get confused. So this is our sincere effort to help the engineers in need.

Firstly what should an engineer do when he/she enters in his/her B.tech first year :

1. Try to befriend with the environment of your college, colleagues and teachers no matter how the environment is. You have to give your best shot.

2. Don't get frustrated with the fact that you are not in a good college. Always keep in mind that you are there to learn, to achieve, to become a good technocrat. Don't give excuses that teachers and are not up to the mark. We all know that some faculties don't teach well and are unable to provide adequate knowledge to the students. So try to teach yourself and become your own teacher. Remember its your four years not the teacher's.

3. Try to learn and innovate things, keep experimenting. Don't excuse that 'Our college doesn't provide enough facilities' because Where there is a will, there is a way.

4. By the end of 2nd year you should realize what you have to do exactly or in which field you have to go. As I said that your prime focus should be to become master of your stream either it is Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering etc. Various options in the technical field :

• Crack GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test In Engineering) and pursue Masters program from reputed college and go in research field after your doctorate.Publish technical papers of your own work and innovate in your field.
• After masters degree you can also apply for jobs in various technical universities and colleges.

Other options in technical field :

• Join PSU's by cracking GATE or their individual exams such as ONGC, BHEL, SAIL, GAIL NTPC etc. (Maximum of the PSU's are for Mechanical Engineering branch )
• Get placed in the technical companies of private sector.
• Apply in government jobs such as railways, banks, ministries, defense etc which require different technocrats from different streams.

 If you are unable to cope up with the technical environment then here comes the various options:

• CAT (Common Aptitude Test) for the selection in various IIM's (Indian Institute Of Management) and other prestigious colleges for MBA (Master Of Business Administration) and other management programs. Apart from CAT there are other individual tests for other colleges such as NMAT for Narsee Monjee Institute Of Management Studies, IRMA for Institute Of Rural Management etc. By getting into a good management institute, you can get placed in a good company with handsome salary.
• Civil Services.
• Banks (IBPS PO, Clerk, RRB's).
• Railways.
• Various exams conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission).
• Armed Forces.
• Police Force. etc etc.

These are the few common fields in which a graduate can apply, otherwise there are many. But most important thing is :

1. Listen to your heart.
2. Do what you like or you think you are good at either in any of field singing, dancing, swimming, acting etc and give your 100 percent in it. You will surely get succeed.

Because there is a truth that the world is being run by people of different fields, and from those people 90 percent are engineers.
